Venus Retrograde in Scorpio: Why Your Ex Is About to Text You
Venus turns retrograde in Scorpio on October 3. Exes resurface, desire gets loud, and one night in late October changes everything. Here’s what’s coming for your sign.

October has a way of finding the thing you swore you were over. This year, it has help.

For most of the month, the planet of love, money and pleasure is retrograde in the most private, possessive, all-or-nothing sign in the sky. Old feelings resurface. Desire gets louder. Someone from 2018 likes a photo from 2019.
This isn’t a month for brand new love. It’s a month for the truth underneath the last one. The question isn’t “who do I want?” It’s “what do I actually want, and how long have I been pretending otherwise?”
Why this one hits harder than most
Venus is how you love, what you find beautiful, and what you believe you’re worth. Most of the time she likes things easy: good lighting, nice manners, a second glass.
Scorpio does not do easy. Scorpio wants the password to your phone and the story behind the scar. So when Venus lands here, flirting turns into digging. You stop wanting someone who’s fun and start wanting someone who’s real. Jealousy, loyalty and longing all get turned up a notch.

Then, on October 3, Venus turns retrograde, meaning she appears to move backwards from where we stand. It happens roughly every 18 months, and in this exact part of the sky about every eight years. The last time was autumn 2018. Think back: who were you loving, chasing or paying for then? This month may rhyme.
She also stays unusually long. Venus arrived in Scorpio on September 10, slips back into Libra on October 25, returns to Scorpio on December 4, and doesn’t fully leave until January 7, 2027. This is a season, not a weekend.
The 8 dates that will change your October
October 3: Venus turns retrograde. The review begins. Notice who you think about first thing that morning. Don’t act on it yet. Just notice.
October 6–7: Venus meets Mercury. What you feel and what you can say finally line up. One of the best windows this month for the honest conversation you’ve been rehearsing in the shower. Say the true sentence, once, kindly.
October 10: New Moon in Libra. A clean page for relationships, the fair and mutual kind. Write down one thing you want to receive, not just give.
October 15: Pluto turns forward. Something stuck deep down starts moving again, and power you handed away starts coming back. Take back one thing you said yes to that was always a no.
October 23: Scorpio season begins. That night, Venus meets the Sun at the exact midpoint of her retrograde. This is the lightbulb: the moment you understand what the whole story was about. Write it down before morning softens it.

October 24: Mercury turns retrograde too. Now both love and communication are in review until November 13. Exes text. Messages land wrong. Draft it, sleep on it, then decide.
October 25: Venus slips back into Libra. The intensity eases into questions of fairness. Who gives more? Who keeps score?
October 25–26: Full Moon in Taurus, the Hunter’s Moon. Your body would like a word. Spend the evening on pleasure that costs nothing: clean sheets, a long bath, real food, early bed.
Looking ahead, Venus and Mercury both turn forward on November 13. Venus returns to Scorpio on December 4 to finish what she started.
What’s coming for your sign
Read your Rising sign first if you know it, then your Sun.
Aries

Intimacy, trust and shared money come up for review. The question isn’t whether you want them. It’s whether you feel safe enough to let them in. Have the money talk you’ve been dodging.
Taurus

Your closest relationships are the whole story this month. Someone’s role in your life may be getting rewritten, possibly by you. Ask for what you actually need, plainly.
Gemini

Your daily rhythm and your body want more care than you’ve been giving. Small habits are where love lives right now. Rebuild one routine that used to make you feel good.
Cancer

Old romance, old crushes, old creative projects: all back on the table. Some deserve a second act. Finish the thing you started in 2018.
Leo

Home and family hold the heat this month. You may need more privacy than you’ve admitted. Make one room in your home feel like yours again.
Virgo

Every conversation has a subtext right now, and you’re reading all of it. Not every message needs a reply today. Leave one on read, with love.
Libra

Venus is your planet, so this is personal. Self-worth and money are under review. Stop discounting yourself. Raise your rate, or at least stop apologizing for it.
Scorpio

It’s happening in your sign. People are seeing you differently, and you’re seeing yourself differently too. Hold off on the dramatic makeover. Wear the thing you’ve been saving instead.
Sagittarius

Secrets, old griefs and private longings surface. Not everything needs to be said out loud yet. Write the letter you won’t send.
Capricorn

Friendships get honest. Some deepen, some quietly end. Call the friend you actually miss, not the one you feel you owe.
Aquarius

Your public image and career ambitions get a second look. What you wanted professionally five years ago may want you back. Return to the dream you shelved.
Pisces

Your beliefs about love are getting rewritten. A trip, a teacher or a book could change everything. Go somewhere beautiful, even for an afternoon.
Do this, not that
A retrograde isn’t a curse. It’s a review. The re- words are your friends this month: revisit, repair, reread, reconsider, return.
Lean in. Have the honest conversation, especially around October 6–7. Fall back in love with what you already own: mend the hem, polish the boots, wear the forgotten dress. Find where the money quietly leaks. Let yourself want things without acting on every want. Rest. Scorpio season is for going inward, not performing.
Maybe wait until mid-November. The dramatic haircut, the face tattoo, the fillers you’ll explain later. Big purchases, especially the ones bought to feel something. New relationship labels, engagements, moving in. Getting back with an ex just because they appeared: ask what’s actually changed. And scrolling their new partner’s profile at 1am. You already know how that ends.
One question to carry this month: What did I want in the autumn of 2018, and do I still want it?
